Serene Adventure: The King of Pop

By Brendan Thomas

Rated: EPIC

Summary: On the 20th anniversary of the death of Michael Jackson, Eternal Champion Ted Toss decides to give the world the King of Pop for one last concert.

Foreword: I don't normally do this bur for the sake of this tribute to the King of Pop, I'm putting my full name at the top of every chapter since I am publishing it across multiple social networking sites. I'm not going to explain the characters and the setting beforehand. I believe it to be bad taste to do so when it's much better to give the information during the course of the story. For the few of you who've ready my past work, you will now know when year it is as of the start of my current project, Serene Adventure: Champions—2029.

I wrestled with the idea of giving him a chapter the aforementioned story but then I felt this deserved special attention. I should warn you—I broke several of my own rules to make this work. If you read my previous work you should easily be able to see what I'm talking about. To those unfamiliar with my style of writing, I favor telling stories from the first person but with dozens of characters throughout the story. That's sort of like my trademark and you can expect to see it prevail here.

Disclaimer: I do not, let alone dream to own the rights to Michael Jackson, his legacy and all that he embodies. Much of said rights belong to Epic Records, Sony and as of 6/25/09, Paul McCartney.

This story is dedicated to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. He spent his life electrifying the world with his music and dance. He may no longer be with us but his legacy will forever endure.

Chapter 1: I Want You Back

---

Los Angeles, California: June 25, 2009

“We interrupt today's programming to bring you breaking news: Michael Jackson, the King of Pop has been rushed to the hospital after reportedly suffering cardiac arrest.” That was all I heard before running down the hall to stare at the TV, in utter shock. I refused to believe what my eyes and ears were telling me. Assuming this held true, I knew there was only a small about of time I had with which to act.

“Katrin, get the Rod of Asclepius.” I said to my daughter as I removed my sword from the mantle above the fireplace and walked outside. I looked down the street to see people rushing downtown to find out what they could about his condition. Once Katrin and I got to him, everything would be fine. My sword, the Aqua Blade began to glow as I tapped into its power.

“There's that many people already?!” my wife, Ann exclaimed as she came outside. “How are you going to get past them?!”

“It seems we have no choice, let alone time to waste.” I replied as Katrin emerged from the house. “Let's go!” We ran down the street towards the hospital. When we were within 100 yards, I stopped before a fire hydrant and cut it open. I then used the water pressure like a spring board to launch the two of us over the growing crowd. We touched down in front of the emergency room entrance unopposed and walked inside.

“Ted Toss?” someone asked. I turned to see Jermaine Jackson—one of Michael's brothers—in the waiting room. He looked at me, then Katrin and then me again. It was painfully obvious he knew what I was planning to do. “You're too late. He wasn't breathing when he came in and they just called it.”

“No...NO!” Katrin exclaimed before she ran into the Emergency Area. Fearing what she'd do, I went after her. The doctors got out of the way both for their own sake and the fact that they knew why we'd come. When we arrived at the room where The King of Pop lay, he was very still. His three children—Michael, Paris and Prince—stood at his side. I could only stand in the doorway and watch to see what would happen.

---

“Who are you?” Prince, the youngest asked me.

“I'm Katrin Toss and that's a father Ted.” I replied with a smile. “I'm here to help your father.”

“What do you mean?” Paris asked as the Rod of Asclepius began to glow faintly. “The doctors just said he's--”

“Beyond their help, I know.” I replied. “I'm going revive him. There's still time. If I work now, it'll shut up the tabloids already reporting his death.”

“You mean you're going to--!” Michael exclaimed before knocking The Rod of Asclepius out of my hands.

“Hey!” I exclaimed as I retrieved it. “I'm just giving you and the world Michael Jackson!”

“This is not what our dad would have wanted.” Michael replied. “He told us a few years ago that if he died suddenly, the world would mourn his passing. He also said when he died, we would be free to live like normal children—something he never was. In bringing him back, you'll be robbing him—and us—of the one thing our father wanted us to have the most!”

I could only look at him in utter shock. Of course, I knew he was right. What I wanted to do was selfish and unfair to them. In the end, only faceless strangers would revel in his return from death. His family would be burdened with hiding the truth about how he survived Cardiac Arrest. I then realized my own safety may be at risk if I revived him as well—thousands of people would come to me asking that I revive dead relatives. Worse yet—I might be kidnapped and used as a ransom. All this because I raised The King of Pop from death. “I...I...” Dad came over just as I broke down crying. We hugged while I cried in his arms.

“The death of a king is something the whole world will remember.” Dad said as he rose and walked over to Michael Jackson's body. “I still can't believe that our first meeting would be like this. Still...The King of Pop's true legacy—his children—will make sure the world remembers how he touched the world when they grow up. Won't you?”

“Yes, we will.” said Michael. “I swear it.”

“Me, too.” said Prince.

“We'll make sure the whole world never forgets.” said Paris.

“I'm sorry for trying to...you know.” I said to the three after having regained myself. “Can we still be friends?”

“Of course.” Michael replied as the three of them hugged me.

“It's because you admire our father so much you wanted to revive him.” Paris remarked. “You're a very kind person.”

“Thank you.” I replied, feeling like I was going to cry all over again. “I'll never forget you, either.”

“Well Katrin, I think it's time we got going.” said Dad as he started for the door. “I'm sure the Jackson Family has to make funeral arrangements and announce the news to the press. I don't exactly want the media to know we were here.”

“I know.” I said as I walked over to him. “Even though he's dead, his Music will live on forever.”

---

End Chapter 1. I should have mentioned this before but the story will be told from the point of view of Ted and Katrin. I do want to explain the Rod of Asclepius. In Greek Mythology, Asclepius is the god of Medicine. The Rod of Asclepius can cure any affliction including death. As for the Aqua Blade, it's a magic sword Ted can use to manipulate water.

As for Katrin's conversation with the King of Pop's kids, I think that's what they would say to anyone who didn't know their father outside the family. Oh, and every chapter will be both named for one of his songs and hint at the overall theme of the chapter.

Reviews are not required but they do motivate me to update quicker =D

The world will never be the same.

The sad thing about his passing is he never got the chance to fully redeem himself. He was working on what would have been his final World Tour when he died and I think that would have helped sway the opinions of people who only knew him from his Sexual Misconduct Trial. I'm sure his brothers and sisters will band together and try to do the tour in his memory but it won't be the same.

At the same time, those who held on to their Vinyl copies of his albums--hell, even the CD copies--will suddenly find that they're worth a small fortune. Michael Jackson will join Elvis Presley as a rich guy even after death. He stated some years ago he wanted to live forever through his music. Now that he's gone, his legacy will live on.

Michael Jackson is the Epitome of Artistical Perfection. No one will even come CLOSE to how EPIC The King of Pop is. I say is because his Legacy--his music--will live forever in the hearts of his fans, friends and family. What made Michael Jackson an international icon who many artists hope to enjoy even a fraction of his success is the fact that he was a perfectionist. Thriller, Bad, Off The Wall and Blood on the Dance Floor EACH contained MULTIPLE #1 Hits we've come to know and love. Like the other MJ (who he did the Jam Music Video with) The King of Pop worked hard to outdo his only competition--himself. Even if it was perfect, he'd go back to the drawing board and look for ways to outdo himself--and he did. Over and over again. To say Michael Jackson will be miseed by the entire world is an understatement. Really, it is.

The only thing more mesmerizing than his music is of course, this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6dx3Zm86P4

In regards to the tour, the show will go on. Michael may not be there in the physical sense but the show will go on. He'd have wanted it to go on. You can expect his brothers and sisters to spearhead that.

Michael Jackson's Death before his tour...people's opinion of him will be split now--those who can overlook his recent issues and those who only see him based on his recent issues. Like R. Kelly, Chris Brown and Bobby Brown, Michael Jackson wasn't perfect. He will be missed.

I've thought about how best to honor the memory of Michael Jackson and after 24 hours, I've decided to put my latest book on hold to write a special story about the King of Pop. It will be titled: Serene Adventure: The King of Pop. Unlike my previous works, I will post each chapter of the story on Facebook, Myspace, Xanga, Live Journal AND Twitter. I encourage everyone to stay tuned =D

Ok, so the financial problem is over with...for now. I'm still leaving the donation buttons up, though. A number of things have been going on that led me to ask this question: Does anyone other than my Wire Overload counterpart make use of The Serene Adventure Forums?

It exists for a reason. I've said this on my Fanfiction, net Fictionpress, Writer's Cafe, MySpace, Facebook, Xanga and Live Journal pages and I'll say it again here: UTILIZE MY FORUMS . A few days ago, I turned off the block I had up requiring guests to register to view my forums. Now you can see it weather you're a registered member or not.

If you know me in real life and you know of Serene Adventure, I am insulted you have not made the effort to utilize my site in its entirety. I do my best to make my site something anyone can use. If you're not gonna at least check the site or even the Old Site, DON'T DARE tell me you don't know how to find me online.

If it hasn't become obvious by now, let me make it loud and clear: I need feedback on Serene Adventure. The sooner, the better. Don't like what's available in the stores? Tell me what you want and I will add it. Don't like how "quiet" the forums look? Bring some freidns and spread the word! Wanna speak your mind about stuff that matters to you? This is the place to do it.

On a lighter note, if anyone is looking for a host, contact me so we can work out the details. I've hosted sites before so if you need a new host, let me know ASAP.

This past weekend my Debt Card was shut off. The reason being it was 30 days since I last put any money towards paying off a loan I took out last December. Because of that, my name was submitted to the credit bureau and until I pay off what I owe (I'm 212.81 overdue right now) there's nothing to stop the state of Massachusetts from Seizing Serene Adventure and Serene Overload if I don't pay off my loan in a timely fashion.

Mind you, I just found out what I will be making now won't be enough to pay the overdue balance off and because I now have a negative credit score (which really sucks if you live in Massachusetts) I'm seriously screwed. I didn't think I'd find myself doing this until my 2nd year of college but now I have no other choice: I'm going to ask everyone who is able to for donations.

And so I have added two buttons to the main page of my site and forums.
The minimum asking amount is $15. If you can donate more than that, you have my sincere thanks. To remind everyone, I am running my site as well as hosting another website I co-own with the Head of Wire Overload. Since the bill is in my name the burden falls on me and right now I've exhausted all my resources with college, the bank and the cost of living.

On the forums, you can find the donation button in the top left and bottom center corners of every page
. They're only on the main page of my website (same areas).

And this isn't true.

AmeriCorps, Peace Corps and Vista, anyone?

I myself did an Americorps Program for 2 years and most Politicians and members of the Military (past and current) agree more National Service opportunities need to be made available. The demand is definitely there.

Listen. I consider someone helping a strangers with directions in Community Service. If someone decides to volinteer their time at a community center, food pantry or homeless shelter that's community service. If someone decides to pack up and move to and move to a City or Town where they don't know anyone to help people in need, that's National Service.

I strongly believe domestic National Service programs should be priority over International Service Programs. The reason is rather simple: You are literally serving America when you do. You are doing the literal version of the phrase "Putting your country first."

Now this is not to say the Military is bad. I was in a Navy ROTC program in High School and loved it. It's actually what got me interested in National Service. In 1988, two Harvard students named Michael Brown and Alan Khazei piloted a grassroots program in Boston called City Year. They didn't know it at the time but their vision to one day make the most asked question of an American young person "where are you going to do your year of service?" would forever change the way people view national service.

The current and previous two administrations (George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush) were so captivated by their selfless, patriotic Action Tank they wanted to see the question answered as well. They didn't just give them the funds to meet that end. City Year was made the model for serveral thousand programs as part of AmeriCorps (which City year is a part of) and the USA Freedom Corps.

I'm pleased both Presidental Candidates feel the same way but so far I have yet to hear either of them really talk about it. This is a surprise considering both of them have made it their personal mission (in their own ways) to make sure America knows and understands the value of National Service. If we as a country are to ensure a better tomorrow, we need to make sure everyone who wants to can have the opportunity to serve.
